Christmas in the world

It’s been several days that we have been making room for the Christmas tree in our homes. Theses trees are very different from each other. But we all want the same thing : making Christmas the most magical moment as possible. 

Everywhere in the world, Christmas is celebrated in own different ways. 

Let’s discover our neighbors’ special traditions for Christmas from our sofas! 

« Christmas is not a day or a season, it’s a state of mind »  

In the United Kingdom, the post office has been pretty busy for a month. Indeed, according to the tradition, thousands of greetings cards are sent every year to people. And during dinner, the night before Christmas, the plates will be filled with littles gifts.  

In Italy, children have been really nice the all year in order to meet the Befana: the witch on her broomstick, who comes to deliver some candies.

In Portugal, let’s get warmed next the chimney where some trunks of olive or chestnuts trees are burning before eating the 13 desserts in memory of Jesus and his Twelve Apostle. While in Estonia, people prefer going to the sauna during the « truce of Christmas ».

In Romania, children are having a hard time trying not to eat the Christmas tree decorations with dried fruits, chocolates and , apples wrapped in glossy papers! Then, the North Americans try not to taste the biscuits and to drink the milk they have left for Santa.  

Everybody can celebrate Christmas in its own way, and to give its own purpose, isn’t it the real magic of Christmas? Taking time and sharing moments with our people: our loved ones, our friends, our neighbors, or even strangers!
